Why people are taking the #BucketBathChallenge & #TapDJChallenge in protest, for the planet?

Updated: Jun 18, 2023

About a year ago I sat down to make a YouTube video on the Bucket Bath Challenge and the Tap DJ Challenge. I ended up making a somewhat shitty video but which had a good message. Now after a year or so, I see that the trend is catching on and many people are taking the challenges as a sign of protest. Read on to know more.

While doing my research across how every major city in the world is facing the peril of water crisis. I mean, the news always tells us this but how far we have pushed our luck as humans was what I was reminded of while making this YouTube video.

Dams in every developed and developing country are going dry, from Brazil to India, to USA, to Germany, to Australia. In some places it is even affecting the power generation apart from water supply.

The Bucket Bath Challenge as a term I think was present for many years and I just used it to reiterate that a bucket bath can save more water than the usual shover and bath tub.

Tap DJ Challenge however was something that struck me when I noticed that I have been trying to micro manage the flow of water when I turn on the tap since my teens. Blame it on a mild OCD or what I don't know. But I've been trying that little bit every time I brush my teeth or wash my hands and so on.

The video never caught on but recently, I have noticed that sales the T-shirt designs I made to accompany the video are spiking. In turn because of that people are seeing the video and making reels, YouTube shorts and TikTok videos on it and spreading the message. Probably some college kids stumbled upon the T-shirts at 2 am in their dorm room and cooked up some thing after which it caught on. But for whatever reason it may be, the good message has started to spread and I'm seeing the start of a steep climb in an internet trend for both the #BucketBathChallenge and #TapDJChallenge.

To top it up, I received a lot of comments from people in India, America, Australia and Europe among others that they are taking the challenges as a sign of protest against world governments' inability to act on climate change. A lot of their comments have the same tone saying:

"It angers me that governments around the world can't act on climate change and so, I want to take the #BucketBathChallenge and #TapDJChallenge as a sign of protest".

Considering the fact that shipping from India to Europe, US or other worldwide locations is uphill for one T-shirt piece from my online store in India, people are tagging along to order 10–15 T-shirts at a time to offset the shipping costs. The T-shirt is Unisex so can be worn by both men and women.

If you are interested in getting a piece for yourself have a look at the links below at Xavi's World:

And yeah, if you want to have a look at the shitty YouTube video, it is there at the top of this post. But whatever you do, protest or no protest, challenge yourself and save water.
